What do I need?
Who can join, the skills to have first, the gear list, and what to bring each week.
To join the Orcas, a player needs:
To be 8 to 18
Players need to be the right age when the season starts in October.
An autism diagnosis
The Orcas are a Canucks Autism Network program for Autistic players.
A CAN account
Families register through their CAN account.
Basic skating
Players need to skate on their own. New players do a skate assessment in September.
Full hockey gear.
Players wear full gear and bring their own. Tick things off as you pack. This list saves in your browser.
What to bring to practice.
Your gear bag
Everything from the checklist, packed the night before.
Comfort items
Headphones, a fidget, a snack for after. Whatever helps your player feel ready.
A visual schedule
If your player uses one, bring it. Coaches can follow it too.
Tell us what works.
In your CAN account, share your player's strengths and support needs. During the season, talk with the coaches about what works at home and at school, like visual schedules, first-then boards, token systems or social stories.
If your player has a personal support worker, they can come to practice too. Email info@canucksautism.ca first.
